I Trusted Myself

There are rare moments in life when I stumble upon a book that I can relate to. It's a connection that happens as I'm reading the book and the thought that keeps going through my head is "this is me!". The main character, usually a girl, does things, says things, feels things that I have felt myself. I connect with her and realize that I'm not the only one who has moments like where I'm a little to scared to put myself out there because I don't know what is on the other side. I like to be safe. I like my comfort zone. And it's scary to leave that safe place and trust someone else.
"There were rules in the game I was playing...I only let myself play because something in me needed what [he] was offering, devoured the attention he gave me, and craved the warmth of even casual contact. But I trusted myself. I knew I wouldn't become tempted by him. Addicted to him. I knew I would recognize the moment I started to need him too much. And when that happened, I planned to flip the game board over and walk away." (The Cubicle Next Door by Siri L. Mitchell)

The Fictional Guy of the Week: Logan Echolls

So I've been a little preoccupied with a little show called Veronica Mars. That's why this weeks Fictional Guy of the Week is Logan Echolls!

Where He's From:

Veronica Mars

His Story:

So pretty much, we're supposed to HATE Logan Echolls. He's a jerk. He's a bad boy. And we're just supposed to hate him. It's as simple as that. Not!

Basically here's how the story starts: Logan used to be Veronica Mars' best friend's boyfriend. Then he got dumped and the best friend got murdered. When Veronica sided with her dad on the Lily Kane (the best friend) murder case, Logan began a war.

He tormented Veronica. He flaunted the fact that she was no longer part of the group (the 09ers) in her face and anyone willing to listen. He pretty much made her life a living he**. But then, you start to see some of Logan's back story. Turns out our jerk a-hole is actually being abused by his actor father. It's pretty sad actually. That's not to say that Logan should be able to treat people like he does. It just explains a little about him. And then the knowledge that he truly did love Lily and he felt as if Veronica had betrayed him when she sided with her dad.

We see a softer side of him through out the end of the first season. Of course, his world goes sliding out of control into a sea of chaos. But by the time the second season rolls around, the damage has already been done. We can't see him as a jerk anymore. We're hooked. We're slightly, sort of, totally in love with the jerk of Neptune high.

Why He's FGW:

I kind of gushed a little in the story part but that's not going to stop me from doing it here too! This is my blog and I'm going to gush as much as I want.

Logan Echolls just wiggles his way into you heart with his scathing remarks, witty quips, and his beautiful brown eyes. Okay, okay. So he only did it to me. Come on, give a girl a break. Sometimes you find yourself attracted to the jerk, the bad boy. There's something about a guy who's not afraid to just hurt your feelings... okay, that seems really, really wrong.

Maybe it's just something about Logan Echolls that gets to me. Maybe it's the way that he looks at Veronica. The way he comes to her rescue more than once. He has a way of just being there. And he's not afraid to be honest about what he thinks.

He's had a rough life. His family life is messed up. His love life is messed up. And he's still working through high school!

Uh, now I just want to skip to the picture portion.

So for your viewing pleasure... May I present Logan Echolls:

Drool...

More drool.

A little more drool...

Not quite Logan Echolls and more Jason Dohring.

Now I just need a bib when I look at him.

Okay, so I couldn't resist a kissing picture. Don't judge me too harshly.

And another one. Wowee!

So there you go. Logan Echolls... another fictional guy to capture my heart. Ha ha ha.

Confessions of a Girl's Obsessions

I've never considered myself obsessive. Dedicated. Maybe a little addicted. But not obsessed. You know the name of that big river in Africa? Can you say it with me? De-Nile! I've been swimming in the river De-Nile for quite some time.

It's only recently that I've taken a step back to realize that I am indeed an obsessive person. Evidence can be found on my Amazon account. Television series bought on whim. Movies watched repeatedly on Netflix. It's all there. I'm guilty. I find something I like and sometimes I like it a little too much.

I'll start to obsess over it. I'll want to read the behind the scenes. I'll want to read books about it. I'll want to watch interviews and specials on it. I get really into it. It's a weakness. One that I never realized I had before now.

Wonder what I have to do to get over it? Can I get over it?

*shrug* Guess we'll have to see right?

The Fictional Guy of the Week: Dr. Henry Jones Jr.

The Fictional Guy of the Week is Dr. Henry Jones Jr a.k.a. Indiana Jones!!

Location: The Indiana Jones Trilogy: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom,  Last Crusade.

His Story:

Dr. Jones is an archeologist. When school is in session, he's a buttoned down professor with a classroom full of girls mooning over him. He's semi-respectable and he's good at bringing back artifacts for the museums.

However, Dr. Jones has an alias. Indiana Jones is a sort of rogue archeologist bent on finding rare and priceless artifacts. He faces down death, cults, and Nazis all in the name of history. Instead of a bow tie and a suit, Indiana wears a fedora, carries a whip, and doesn't shave.

Raised by a respected by a historian of some kind (I can't remember what and I don't feel like looking it up), Indiana Jones grew to appreciate history which causes him to go on dangerous expeditions in search for rare artifacts that belong in museums. He has a thirst for a find and he risks his life to get what he's looking for.

Sound exciting enough right?

Oh and his love life is quite interesting. He seems to be one of those guys with a girl in every port. But I guess he's Indiana Jones; it's allowed.

Why He's FGW:

I have always just loved Indiana Jones. He's got it all: excitement, danger, bravery, good looks, great fashion, and a love for history. Plus, I'm a huge fan of a young Harrison Ford. Oh and this guy is not only educated but he's ripped and handsome and cocky. Pretty much what most girls (by most girls I mean me) are looking for in a guy... even if he is fictional.

Yeah, that's about it. I just love Indiana Jones and his thirst for adventure and finding the truth. Plus... he looks pretty good with his shirt off. Ha ha, couldn't resist!

And now, for your viewing pleasure.... Indiana Jones!

All I can say is just look at those arms!

What a cute little bow tie Dr. Jones.

Only Harrison Ford could pull of a Fedora like that.

Can I get you anything to drink Indiana Jones?

I'll take some of that arrogance with side of smolder.

Looks like Dr. Jones needs a little nursing. I'm available.

I'd take his class...

Maybe you can see what I see in Indiana Jones...

My Crazy, Neurotic Obsession with Veronica Mars...

My Crazy, Neurotic Obsession with Veronica Mars and Further Evidence of My Hopeless Romantical, Shipper Nature. (This is the official title but it was too long to actually use.)

Okay, so a little back story... My younger brother has told me a few times that I'd really enjoy Veronica Mars. For those of you who don't know what Veronica Mars is please allow me to enlighten you.

Veronica Mars (VM) aired originally on the UPN network which teamed up with The WB to create The CW. VM is about a high school girl who helps out her dad at his private detective agency. Veronica's best friend, Lily, was found murdered a year earlier (or some time period similar to that) and when the Sheriff, Veronica's dad, pointed the finger at Lily's own father the Sheriff got booted out of office. Veronica was shunned by her friends and she sort of became a rebel, at least with her former friends. Now she spends time solving cases and helping out her dad. ...Okay, that about sums up the story line... at least what I know of it.

That's right. I haven't actually seen the whole show. (There are only three seasons.) I've actually only seen four episodes. So now I know you're asking yourself "Self, how can she be obsessed with a show she's never really seen?" That's what I'm going to explain next.

As I said before, my younger brother actually told me some time ago that he thought I'd enjoy it. I'd seen it on Netflix and I'd read the description for it but the cover art was kind of dark and I just didn't know if I really wanted to watch it. I did watch a few episodes but then I got distracted. I always thought about going back to watch it but I just never did. I did find the show interesting but I guess it wasn't interesting enough for me to actually sit down and watch.

Needless to say... I'm interested now.

Here's how it happened. I was feeling a little bored and burned out from Alias (I like this show as well it's just complicated and drains the brain a little). I got on Youtube to... well to be honest... to watch fan videos. I find it interesting to watch these videos that random fans make and watch music they put with them. I just happened to stumble upon one about the LoVe relationship. LoVe stands for Logan and Veronica.

Logan Echolls is a character from Veronica  Mars.  In fact, he's Veronica's main antagonist in the beginning of season one. I'd seen the first four episodes and I thought the two hated each other. So how did they go from hating and terrorizing each other to making out in the girl's bathroom? (Yeah, I found a clip.)

It was intriguing and I couldn't stop myself from researching more. I watched more videos (yeah, I know. Pathetical.) I imdb-ed it. I wikipedia it. I had to know what happened. That's when I found out that somehow Veronica and Logan somehow fall in love and have some kind of relationship thing. Twice. WHAT THE HECK!?

I'm sure you can see where I'm heading with this, right?  This was the beginning of my obsession. I went back to watch Veronica Mars on Netflix. At the time my brother mentioned the show to me, it was available for instant viewing. Not so much anymore. I kicked myself for not taking advantage while I had the chance. So I added all three seasons to my queue.

But I'm in the middle of the fifth season of Psych on Netflix. I'd have to wait like two weeks before I could finally start watching. And even then, I'd have to wait for each individual disc to ship. As with all things that I want, I checked Amazon. Only 18 bucks. Hmm... I told myself that I'd sleep on it. I was tired and I couldn't go spending money. I'd just gotten back from a trip so I'd missed a week of work. I couldn't blow my money on something as silly as season of Veronica Mars. I put my laptop away and settled down for bed.

Five minutes later, I pulled my laptop back out and clicked my way to Amazon. Season one should arrive on Tuesday. Yep. I'm that crazy. I bought a TV show I've barely seen just so I can figure out how Logan and Veronica get together.

You know what this means now hopefully. It means I'll be 'shipping' Logan and Veronica, also affectionately (and fangirlishly) known as LoVe. I guess the moral of the story is to not go on Youtube to watch fan videos. It can lead to a horrible tornado of shipperness.

That's right. I'm a hopeless romantic. A hopeless shipper. A hopeless dork. What on earth am I going to do with myself? ...Guess I'll just watch TV. Veronica Mars anyone?

The Fictional Guy of the Week: Shawn Spencer

The Fiction Guy of the Week is... Shawn Spencer!!!

Location: USA's Psych

His Story:

Shawn Spencer is the ultimate con artist. He has convinced the Santa Barbara police department that he is a psychic. He's not a psychic. He's just really good at noticing details. Training he received from his cop father, Henry, as a child.

Shawn and his best friend/partner, Burton Guster also known as Gus, opened their psychic detective agency named simply Psych shortly after Shawn started his con. Together they have helped not only the Santa Barbara Police Department but other private clients solve all sorts of cases. To put it simply, Shawn and Gus are pretty dang good at doing their "job".

At the Santa Barbara Police Department, there is the dynamic duo of Carlton Lassiter and Juliet O'Hara. They're the two detectives that constantly battle and/or work with Shawn when he has his psychic episodes. They're the team that he has the most contact with. Also, I'm a shipper for Juliet and Shawn. Just had to put that out there!

Why He's FGW:

I have a tendency to pick characters that I'm currently watching a lot of. A coworker recently got me hooked on Psych and thus on Shawn Spencer. I enjoy Shawn's eccentricity and his humor. I haven't laughed so much at a show ever, I think. I think that's what I love about it so much: it makes me laugh. And recently, I've needed to laugh.

Shawn Spencer is funny and ridiculous but he gets the job done, even if he has a few (or several) false starts. He's a little bit charming and when he wants to be, sympathetic. Also, he's attractive in an average guy kind of way, even if he's really not an average guy.

And now for the picture portion of today's FGW... enjoy.

Hope you enjoyed this week's FGW.
